Position

In accordance with the Explore! Community School mission and values, the Principal Resident (Principal in Training) will work under the supervision of the Executive Principal to fully develop into a Principal over the course of their residency. The Principal Resident will supervise and coach teachers and own the structures and systems that form the foundation of a well-run school. You will collaborate with academic leaders across our school to further develop your leadership toolkit, preparing you for the role of Principal. You will be expected to manage the responsibilities below.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the leadership team, identify academic priorities, set measurable goals to achieve priorities and monitor progress towards goals
  • Directly manage the growth and development of a subset of instructional staff and instructional leaders; serve as an instructional coach for leaders and teachers through regular observation and feedback meetings, data meetings and co-intellectual preparation and lesson planning
  • Analyze student achievement data as well as teacher performance data on a variety of metrics, both quantitative and qualitative, and use this data to collaborate with leaders and teachers on short and long term planning to improve student outcomes
  • Plan and deliver small group and staff wide professional development sessions as needed
  • Seek diverse viewpoints through proactive engagement with families and community members in order to invest stakeholders in our mission
  • Co-manage specific aspects of school-wide operational routines such as arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess and transitions as well as emergencies and emergency drills
  • Assist in the coordination and management of all standardized student assessments and evaluations, including state assessments, interim assessments and other measures as needed
  • Develop and support a high expectations culture that encourages and develops student independence and ability to engage with challenging content
  • Consistently use and support school wide behavior expectations that ensure logical consequences and restorative practices that are predictable and supportive of student development
  • Support students in meeting and exceeding our expectations at Explore, including the expectations set forth in our core values
  • Work with their coach (Executive Principal) on individual development based on a proactive response to implementing feedback and seeking out and participating in development opportunities
  • Work closely with the leadership team to retain, recruit and select new staff members
  • Work directly with students as needed (this could include daily whole or small group teaching responsibilities based on school and student need)
  • Complete all administrative requirements by given deadlines

Qualifications

  • Unyielding optimism that children can perform at or above grade level regardless of where they may be starting their educational journey
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to manage complex projects and effectively problem solve
  • Demonstration of cultural competence and a commitment to grow and model humility in this area
  • A minimum of 4 years teaching experience preferred with demonstrated track record of high student achievement
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a management or leadership capacity preferred
  • Experience organizing and facilitating effective meetings
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues
  • A master’s degree preferred with a preference for an administrative degree
